 | | Andrzej Jonas, Rafał Blechacz fot. W. Rzepecki | Winner of the 15th Chopin Competition in Warsaw, Rafał Blechacz, has received the Chair of the Year 2005. The award has been granted annually for the past 17 years by The Warsaw Voice magazine to people, institutions and even things which exerted the greatest impact on the Polish reality or on the feelings of Poles in the passing year.
Justifying the magazine's decision, editor-in-chief of Warsaw Voice, Andrzej Jonas said that Rafał Blechacz is „gifted with an outstanding talent, he is an extremely hard-working individual; he has devoted himself to culture, he is a young man with a magnificent future; he has captured the hearts of Poles and cast a positive light on Poland; he has given us joy and a tide of warm feelings which we so desperately need. Despite the tremendous, international success, he has remained the way he was-he is natural, modest and open."
Past laureates of the Chair of the Year included Lech Wałęsa, Leszek Balcerowicz, Jan Krzysztof Bielecki, Hanna Suchocka, the Warsaw Stock Exchange, Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz, the Supreme Court's administration, Labor and Social Security Chamber, the passenger car, Tadeusz Mazowiecki and Roman Kluska, Jerzy Buzek, Bronisław Geremek, Aleksander Kwaśniewski, Adam Małysz, Danuta Hübner, Jerzy Hausner and Marek Belka.
