The first concert of Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra took place on November 5, 1901 in the newly built Philharmonic Hall. The first three Frederick Chopin Piano Competitions (1927, 1932, 1937) were held here. After World War II another International Frederick Chopin Piano Competition was held in the new, rebuilt National Philharmonic in 1955. Today, the competition, which is one of the oldest and most prestigious musical contests in the world, is held every five years at National Philharmonic.
The Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra and the Choir enjoy world-wide popularity and recognition. Each season, the Philharmonic gives over 80 symphony concerts, more than 50 chamber music concerts and a special series of concerts for children, featuring the Orchestra as well as guest symphony orchestras and chamber ensembles, both Polish and foreign. Apart from outstanding Polish artists, the Warsaw Philharmonic has hosted many eminent artists from all over the world.
