George Sand’s former estate is located here. Chopin first came to Nohant in 1839 after leaving Mallorca. He regained his strength and good mood in Nohant. He came here each summer until 1846 (with the exception of 1840). In Nohant he created nearly two thirds of all his works including a lion’s share of the works considered to be the most significant. In 1846 Chopin left Nohant for good. He had to make his decision about leaving Nohant as his relations with George Sand chilled and were soon were broken off altogether.
