Chopin spent his holidays in Duszniki Zdrój in July and August 1826. Chopin, who was sixteen at the time, gave two charity concerts in a building then called Health Spa and nowadays called Frederick Chopin Manor or Theatre (Dworek/Teatr im. Fryderyka Chopina). Ever since 1946 International Chopin Festivals have been held in the Chopin Manor. The Festivals showcase some of the most eminent and internationally known pianists. In 1946 a plaque commemorating the 120th anniversary of Chopin's concerts in Duszniki was fixed in the wall of the Manor. Nearby the Chopin Manor there are two Chopin monuments.
In 1989 Foundation of International Chopin Festivals in Duszniki Zdrój was set up. Its aim is to preserve and cherish Chopin traditions dating back to the middle of the 19th century.
International Chopin Festivals are organised here, archives, photographs and commemorative medals are gathered. Concerts are recorded and archived. An International Chopin Centre which will organise master classes, symposia, etc. is being created.
