Żelazowa Wola
Poland, Żelazowa Wola

Type: Museums, Chopin Events Venues, Places Chopin Visited/Places Where Chopin Lived, Memorial Places,

Small town located around fifty kilometres away from Warsaw. In 1810 Frederick Chopin was born in the local manor. A few months after his birth, the Chopin family moved to Warsaw, however, Frederick visited Żelazowa Wola several times in his youth.

The idea to commemorate the place was first proposed in 1870. Today, the house in Żelazowa Wola looks almost exactly like a typical 19th century manor. The collections of its museum include: 19th century furniture, tapestries, engravings and instruments.

Concert season in Zelazowa Wola lasts from May till the end of September. In the years 1954-2005 Chopin concerts in the manor were organised by the Frederick Chopin Society in Warsaw. Ever since 2006 they have been organized by the Fryderyk Chopin Institute. Concerts featuring renowned pianists are held on Sundays (at noon and at 3 p.m.).

The estate in Zelazowa Wola is managed by the Fryderyk Chopin Institute.

A branch of the Fryderyk Chopin Museum. Situated close to the town of Sochaczew, 54 km from Warsaw, Żelazowa Wola has become a shrine to the memory of Fryderyk Chopin. Here, in an annexe of the manor house belonging to Count Skarbek, on 1 March (22 February) 1810, the greatest Polish composer was born. Reconstructed during the inter-war period and again after World War Two, the building ultimately took on the form of a traditional Polish manor house. It contains period furniture, tapestries, etchings and musical instruments. The beautiful grounds of the manor were laid out during the inter-war period.
Available to visitors are audio guides in five languages; there is also a shop with recordings, publications and souvenirs.
