Young Chopin gave several concerts in the Belvedere Palace, which in the 19th century was property of Russian tsars. Chopin played for tsar Alexander's brother, Great Prince Konstanty, commander-in-chief of the Polish Army. At his request Chopin composed an army march, which was later played during army parades.
Since 2002 the Belvedere Palace has been a site of the summer Chopiniana Festival concerts. In 2002 the first Chopin concert, and at the same time the first public concert in the history of the Palace, was held here.
