The Society was established in 1911 in Paris by Édouard Ganche, Camille Le Senne and Maurice Ravel. From the beginning of its existence it cultivates the memory of Chopin's life and works. Its history was marked with events which had considerable impact on musical life of France. The Society organised important concerts, conferences, voyages, literary events as well as traditional visits at Chopin's grave at the Père-Lachaise cemetary.
After World War II, disappearance of Édouard Ganche (1945) and dispersal of his important collection of Chopin's manuscripts and partitions the Society suspends activities. In 1979 thanks to Élisabeth Parmentier it is reactivated. Today the Society has over 250 members. Since 1983 it has been organising an annual Chopin Festival, which takes place in Orangerie du Parc de Bagatelle.
