The basis for the Society's activities lies in preservation of the Frederick Chopin heritage. The focal point for all the collections gathered and kept in the Museum, in the Library, in the Photo Archives and in the Sound Library is Chopin and his epoch. The collections provide scientific research basis for musicologists and Chopin scholars from all over the world.
The Frederick Chopin Society also participated in editorial undertakings, to mention, among others, the Frederick Chopin's Complete Works, edited jointly by Ignacy Jan Paderewski, Józef Turczyński and Ludwik Bronarski and brought out in the years 1949-1961, and - since 1959 - the issuing of the National Edition of Frederick Chopin's Works as edited by Jan Ekier.
Moreover, the Frederic Chopin Society carries out publishing activities and is the organizer of Chopin festivities and celebrations in cooperation with the Chopin Circles and Chopin Centres both at home and abroad.
Until 2005 the society was responsible for the organization of the International Frederick Chopin Piano Competitions. The Frederick Chopin International Piano Competition is one of the oldest events of its type in the world, and enjoys great prestige and universal renown. In the seventy years of its existence, the competition has evolved, and created its own extensive tradition. The initiator of the Frederick Chopin Piano Competition was Prof. Jerzy Zurawlew (1887-1980), an outstanding Polish pianist, teacher and composer. The competitions are held every five years. To date, 15 competitions have been held. The 15th Frederick Chopin International Piano Competition took place in September 2005. the 16th edition is scheduled for 2010. It will be organized by the Fryderyk Chopin Institute.
The Society organizes regular concert series in Sanniki and in Suprasl.
