After World War II, the Cracow Philharmonic Hall was established as the first one in Poland. The first concert of a symphonic orchestra was held on 3 February 1945, and soon a mixed choired joined in, followed later also by a boys choir. Having such extensive capacities, the specificity of the Cracow Philharmonic Hall's repertoire of that time were oratorios (often performed in old churches of Cracow) and in programmes of numerous international festival of sacral music.
The Cracow Philharmonic Hall hosted the most distinguished symphonic orchestras in the world.
Its present high artistic position the Cracow Philharmonic Hall documents, above all, by concert activities. Apart from weekly symphonic concerts, it organises events in Cracow historical buildings (Royal Castle at Wawel, Jagiellonian University), masters recitals, organ recitals, concerts cultivating the love of music in young people ("Musica - ars amanda" cycle) and children (at its seat and in the neighbourhood of Cracow). It is a patron of Days of Organ Music. It has a considerable share in enlivening the cultural life of Cracow, a city of great traditions.
