Description The "Rencontres Internationales Frédéric Chopin" Festival was first organized in 1997 to pay homage to the composer, whose name is intertwined with the house of George Sand. Nowadays, the festival is organized each year and lasts through eight consecutive days of the second half of July. Festival events include concerts, master classes and conferences conducted by experts from all over the world. The Festival always begins with a concert - lecture in the house of George Sand. Young soloists from fine French and foreign musical schools participate in master classes during the week and give a closing concert at the end of the Festival.
This year’s festival will celebrate three anniversaries: that of the birth of Mozart, the death of Schumann and the inception of the festival. It will kick off on July 21st with a recital by Anne Queffélec, who will perform a program of music by Chopin and Mozart. Highlights of the festival will include a musical-literary performance presenting Chopin’s relationship with Robert and Clara Schumann, a concert featuring Chopin's works for piano and orchestra which he composed before his famous two Concertos, encounters with Chopin researchers: Jean-Jacques Eigeldinger, John Rink and Marie-Paule Rambeau, as well as recitals given by distinguished pianists, including Abdel Rahman El Bacha, Dominique Merlet and Roustem Saïtkoulov. The audience will also follow the tracks of Chopin in the Vallée Noire and accompany him in his "Last Journey” filled with music and literature. The festival will conclude on July 27th with appearances by young participants of the "Chopin Academy”.
