Description Organized by the Fryderyk Chopin Institute, the annual "Chopin and His Europe” Festival will dominate the musical scene of Poland's capital city for the third time. This year's edition, titled "In the Orbit of Romanticism – from Mozart to Tomasz Stanko”, will be held from August 15 through August 31 and will include 17 concerts featuring over 200 musicians from more than 20 countries.
The list of performers will feature celebrities and winners of international competitions - Nelson Freire, Stanislav Bunin, Peter Donohoe, Lilya Zilberstein, Kevin Kenner, Michel Dalberto, Tatiana Shebanova, Roland Pöntinen, Alexander Melnikov, distinguished soloists from Poland - Ewa Poblocka, Wojciech Switala, Kuba Jakowicz, Ryszard Groblewski, Andrzej Bauer, and new talents - George Emmanuel Lazaridis, Gilles Vonsattel, Hinrich Alpers. Soloists will be accompanied by: Orchestra of the National Philharmonic conducted by Antoni Wit, Sinfonia Varsovia under the baton of Jacek Kaspszyk and Tadaaki Otaka, and two orchestras playing on period instruments - Orchestra of the 18th century, which will be led by Frans Brüggen, and Concerto Köln. There will be two appearances of Makoto Ozone, a renowned Japanese jazz pianist, who will demonstrate his virtuosity during the opening concert and a concert featuring Tomasza Stanko. The Kawalerowie blotni group will present its "Chopin Archipelago” program.
Besides Chopin's music the festival will also feature works by Beethoven, Schubert, Schumann, Liszt, Brahms, Szymanowski and Tchaikovsky.
It has become the festival's tradition that Chopin's music is performed on instruments from the composer's era. This year, his works will be played on pianos: Erard dating back to 1849, Pleyel from 1848 and Graf, which dates to approximately 1819.
All concerts will be recorded and broadcast via the Polish Radio and the European Radio Union to reach around 10 million music enthusiasts across Europe.
